About Journal Botanica
One clear source for what plants really do.
Botanical ingredients are everywhere: in the oils on our shelves, the serums in our bathrooms and the remedies passed down through families. What has been missing is a trustworthy place to find out which of them work, how, and for whom.
Our mission
Journal Botanica exists to educate and inform. We gather the scattered research on botanical ingredients (clinical trials, laboratory studies, systematic reviews and centuries of traditional use) and bring it together in one place, written so anyone can understand it.
Search for almost any plant ingredient online and you will find marketing copy, anecdotes and contradictory advice. We want to be the place you come to instead: a calm, central reference where curiosity is met with evidence, and where you can leave knowing more than when you arrived.
“Not what an ingredient promises, but what the evidence shows.”
What we stand for
Evidence before enthusiasm
Every claim is traced back to published research. We read the studies, not the press releases, and we say plainly when the science is thin, mixed or missing.
Graded, not guessed
Each ingredient in the Botanical Index carries an evidence grade, so you can see at a glance how much we actually know and how much is still hope.
Written for people
Research is only useful if it can be understood. We translate clinical language into clear, honest writing without flattening the nuance that matters.
Always being revised
Science moves, so we do too. Entries are reviewed as new studies are published, and corrections are made openly.
Who it is for
For the curious reader wondering whether rosehip oil really fades dark spots. For the careful shopper reading an ingredient list. For formulators, students and practitioners who need the research in one place. If you have ever wanted a straight answer about a plant ingredient, this journal was made for you.
